Frequency converters

Frequency converters are converters of the modulated signal, or spectrum. They transforms input signal in intermediate frequency without change of modulation law. Frequency converters are built on nonlinear elements – multipliers, mixers. Frequency multipliers are used for creation of high-frequency stable power supplies at presence of low-frequency stable generators.

 

Frequency doubler.

The chart of frequency doubler is resulted on fig.1. Input meander acts with the frequency F, on the output of circuit there will be the signal of the doubled frequency 2F. A direct and inverted input signal acts on differential circuit R1C1 and R2C2. Differential circuit forms logical “0” on the input of the circuit 2-Input NAND. Relative pulse duration of output signal relies on the values R1, C1, R2, C2.

Frequency converter.

D-trigger works similar to mixer of superheterodyne receiver of analog signals (fig. 2,a). Circuit serves signals with frequency F1and F2 on the input D and C of the trigger. Impulsive signal by frequency /F1 – F2/ will be on the output of the trigger (fig.2,b).
